On Wednesday 24th April 2019, I braved out the rain to use the sea kayak for the first time and my eyes were opened to how difficult it is to steer a kayak that is three times the size of you.
The team at Garstang Canoe and Kayak Club picked this kayak for me to do my challenge in for the very reason that it is designed to keep straight. The designed seem to have no effect on me, however, as I, for the life in me, couldn’t keep it straight.
It turns out that I favour one side more than the other. I wonder if my mirrored twin did the same, would I go one way and she the other?
Anyway, towards the end of the session, I finally got the thing going straight. I was also able to turn it around which, in a river that small and a kayak that big, is quite a feat if I do say so myself. It takes a while though :D.
All in all, I had a lot of fun. Even though I was totally soaked after. I honestly can’t wait to get started on the 82 miles journey that is Kayak82.
